They affect prices in the market, the harvest in the fields, and the power in your home. AFORD’s plan is clear: fix the essentials first, then drive development for all.
The 4 Fs
Malawi’s economy is built on the strength of its foreign exchange reserves. Without forex, we cannot import fuel, medicines, or agricultural inputs. The cost of living rises, and businesses grind to a halt. AFORD understands that a stable currency is the foundation for national stability and growth. That’s why we are committed to policies that support exports, encourage foreign investment, and ensure public finance is managed with integrity. By restoring confidence in our economy, we will create jobs, reduce dependence on donors, and make Malawi a country where opportunity flows as freely as our currency.
The fertiliser crisis is a crisis of governance. Smallholder farmers — who feed our nation — are too often left out by corrupt or mismanaged subsidy systems. AFORD will overhaul the way fertiliser is procured, distributed and subsidised to ensure timely, transparent access for every farmer who needs it. We will support the growth of local fertiliser blending plants to reduce dependency on imports and create rural jobs. With fair access to inputs, Malawi can increase its harvest, lower food prices, and turn farming into a path to prosperity — not poverty.
No child should go to bed hungry in a country as fertile and resourceful as Malawi. Yet, year after year, we face the same food insecurity. AFORD believes that food is a right, not a privilege. Our plan focuses on increasing local food production by investing in irrigation, supporting smallholder farmers, and expanding access to agricultural extension services. We will also invest in rural food storage infrastructure to reduce post-harvest losses and stabilise prices throughout the year. A fed nation is a strong nation — and AFORD will make that vision a reality.
Malawi cannot function without fuel — it powers our hospitals, transports our crops, lights our homes, and drives our economy. Yet our people continue to suffer fuel shortages driven by forex mismanagement and logistical failures. AFORD will ensure strategic reserves are in place, reduce inefficiencies in fuel procurement, and expand investment in renewable energy sources like solar and hydro. We will secure our energy future, not just for now, but for generations to come. With AFORD, the lights will stay on, and Malawi will move forward.
