A legacy of courage. A future of inclusive development.

AFORD Rises

AFORD was founded in 1993 by the late Chakufwa Chihana — a fearless advocate for democracy who helped end Malawi’s one-party regime. As the first political party to challenge dictatorship, AFORD led the way in ushering in a new era of multiparty governance rooted in freedom, justice, and accountability.

The principles that guide our purpose

The Heart of Our Movement

Our Mission
To advance democracy, justice, and inclusive development by empowering citizens, protecting rights, and delivering policies that improve everyday life for all Malawians.

We work through grassroots engagement, bold policies, and leadership that listens, acts, and delivers real results where they’re needed most.

Our Vision
A united, self-reliant Malawi built on equity, opportunity, and dignity — where every citizen has a voice, a stake, and a future.

We see a Malawi where opportunity is shared, dignity is protected, and progress is powered by every citizen — not just a few.

Our Values
We stand for accountable leadership, people-first policies, empowerment, and real development that meets Malawians' everyday needs.

We put people first, govern with honesty, champion equality, and commit to policies that uplift families, empower youth, and respect every voice.
